 S*T*A*R*S-kids is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity. Internal Revenue Code. STARS-kids strives to ensure a brighter future for shunted children. We are volunteer parents and friends of shunted children who raise awareness and funds for hydrocephalus and shunt research. Donations are gladly accepted at any time. STARS-kids hosts three major fund raising events annually. Our largest event is held every spring and in the past has included a dinner dance/auction and in 2008, a wine tasting event with a silent and live auction. In September, a Golf Classic is held benefiting STARS-kids at Devils Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, MI. In October, on Make a Difference Day, STARS-kids hosts a community walk-a-thon. In 2007 walk-a-thons were held in Miami, FL and in Grand Haven, MI. Sponsorships, matching funds and in-kind donations are gratefully accepted for each of our events. We publish an annual Year Book which includes photographs of event highlights, research news, facts about hydrocephalus and shunts, tributes written about children with hydrocephalus and shunts and advertisements. The Year Book is published in the Spring of each year and premiers at the spring fundraising event. Circulation of the Year Book occurs at each of our events throughout the year. Advertising space is extremely reasonable for such widespread distribution. Our Year Book is one of our most valuable marketing tools. It reaches communities throughout the Greater Detroit Metro area and an international audience of neuroscientists, biomedical engineers and clinicians.
